Building compute means selecting various options and starting a build process for that Compute Item. When the build completes, a new Compute Item will be available with the options applied that were selected at build time.

Proximity Cloud Compute can be built in a couple of ways:

  • By selecting the button to provision compute in Proximity Cloud on the appropriate tile in the Build page.

  • By initiating the build from the underlying hardware that will host the Compute - i.e. either a VPS Host (viewable on the My Compute Items screen) or a bare metal Node in a Dedicated Server chassis (viewable on the Physical Compute Overview screen)

In addition, you can choose to redeploy an existing Dedicated Server or Virtual Private Server.

The following section outlines how to build compute using these different options. The build options that you are given for each VPS or DS is the same, regardless of how the build action is triggered. These build options are explained in Build a Virtual Private Server - Build Options and Build a Dedicated Server - Build Options .

The provision endpoint provides the functionality to allow you to build new Virtual Private Servers, Dedicated Servers, or Cross Connects. The Proximity Cloud: API Worked Examples guide also includes fuller examples of how each of these API calls can be used to complete common business workflows, and is particularly targeted at Proximity Cloud workflows.
