Building an Item Trace query
Introduction
An item represents all the Agent Events that relate to a single business object. Business object data is captured by probes and sent to an Agent when it crosses through the network or application. At different points, Agents might receive different or additional data about the business object. These are mapped to Attributes. When the data is passing through VMX-Analysis this is put together to construct an Item History for that particular business object.
In VMX-Explorer, we use the Item Trace endpoint to construct the Item History and query the state of a given Business object and its transit through a monitored system. By selecting the ID of a specific business item, you can further drill down to the individual hops that the Item made in transit, as per the example results below (which are visualised in VMX Explorer):
See the Beeks Analytics User Guide for VMX-Explorer for more example visualisations that can be performed in Grafana with Beeks Analytics data.
Worked example
This worked example shows how to build an Item Trace query that maps out a trace of the events that occurred for a specified Business object and the time taken for each interval.
