In computer networking, the Internet Protocol (IP) is a protocol that enables data transfer between two entities.

IP is the network layer communications protocol in the Internet protocol suite (otherwise known as TCP/IP) for relaying datagrams across network boundaries. An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a unique numerical label such as 192.0.2.1 that identifies a device that is connected to a computer network using the Internet Protocol for communication.
