The Beeks Analytics system is highly configurable. For some types of deployments, we can standardise some of the concepts and make these available via a configuration template.

The configuration template is one or more structured data sources (usually JSON files but it could also be a configuration database), which is read by a Configuration Generator. The Configuration Generator produces the individual Beeks Analytics system configuration files.

An example configuration template is the Beeks Analytics for Markets template. This is documented in the Beeks Analytics Data Guide.

A templated configuration such as Beeks Analytics for Markets.

This guide describes how to configure the VMX-Capture part of the overall Beeks Analytics system without using a configuration template. This can be useful for the following reasons:

  • An understanding of the underlying configuration of VMX-Capture can help you understand the changes that the configuration template makes, and will help you to understand how the system scales to support high loads.

  • If you want to use Beeks Analytics software on its own without making use of a Beeks Analytics appliance (for example, if you are using VMX-Capture software to process your own packets, which haven’t been captured by Beeks Analytics).

  • If you are using certain functionality of the Core Data Feed (specifically, CDF-T to output telemetry and CDF-M to output messages), it helps you to understand the VMX-Capture layer, as this is part of the architecture that processes and outputs this information.

  • For performance reasons. The open architecture and open consumption philosophy of Beeks Analytics means that, if you want to get data out of our system, we try to give you access to that data as close to the original data as possible. This means that you can access data with the lowest latency and at higher volumes than is possible with competitor systems. Pulling data out from the VMX-Capture layer, with minimal processing overhead allows you to achieve the highest possible throughput from Beeks Analytics.

Beeks Analytics for Markets worked examples in this document

We’ll include some worked examples generated from a Beeks Analytics for Markets (BAM) template in this guide. You don’t need to understand Beeks Analytics for Markets in order to follow these examples - our examples of VMX-Capture configuration are at a lower level of abstraction than the Beeks Analytics for Markets configuration. If you do want to understand more about Beeks Analytics for Markets, please see the Beeks Analytics Data Guide.
