An Agent puts data into a a set of formal Attributes, so that VMX-Analysis can process the data for analytics and track messages as they move through the network or application components.

There are two types of Attributes in VMX-Capture:

  • Capture Attributes

  • Correlation IDs (primary and alternative)

Capture Attributes

A Capture Attribute is a name and a data type, which Agents use to store data about a business object. For example, the quantity and price of an order.

Agents have a set of basic Capture Attributes that are populated by all Agents, and additional Capture Attributes that are specific to the journey the message will take through the network or application.

Capture Attributes are used in analytics but can also be designated as Searchable Attributes or Match Attributes to help you find information or identify messages.

Correlation IDs (and Alt IDs)

Correlation IDs are special Capture Attributes which are used to group together, track, and analyse individual transactions as they are seen at different Agent points.  This process is called Correlation. Alternative IDs can be used where there are some Agents that don’t receive a correlation ID - multiple Alternative IDs can then be chained together to identify the Item.

Each Business Object type has a pre-defined journey through the network or application. This pre-defined journey is called a Flow. Each Flow has a specific list of Attributes that are populated by every Agent in the Flow.
